After creating the storyboard and mapping out my final ideas, I am now at the stage where I need to illustrate my background assets before starting to animate anything. I first need to illustrate still frames, and the backgrounds I roughly mapped out in my storyboard to polished illustrations that I can then animate on top of in order to ensure everything is aligned and mapped out correctly.
